He was predeceased by: his parents, Viola Werner and John A. Werner; his brothers, Raymond Vogel, Kenneth Vogel and John A. Werner, Jr.; and his sons, Steven Starns Werner and Laine Alan Werner.

He is survived by: his wife Kay H. Starns Werner (Kelly) of Clinton; his sister LaDonna Hartmann (Christian David Hartmann) of Annandale, Virgina; his children, Dawn Brandenburg (Werner) of Denver, Colorado, Randy Starns Werner (Sue) of Hudson, Ohio, Kary Werner of Harpers Ferry and Brenda Starns (Werner); and his grandchildren, Allynne Werner Brandenburg of Denver, Colorado, Alyson (Werner), Zuzolo (Phil) of Hudson, Ohio, Mackenzie Starns (Liz) of Ashtabula, Ohio, Courtney (Werner), Zedaker (Alan) of Aurora, Ohio, Ryan Cleary (Amy) of Mason, Ohio, Chad Werner (Cheri) of Boise, Idaho, Stephanie Werner of St. Charles, Missouri, Andrew Werner of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Katie Werner, Kara Werner (Chukwudi Njoku) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Kelly Von (Lopez), Megan Lopez of Scottsdale, Arizona and Ryan Lopez (Joan Guiscafre) of Mallorca, Spain. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
