He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Bates and Clara Bates (Hartman); his wife Marilyn Bates; and his sister Norma Weber. He is survived by: his children, Lynn Emick (Jeff) and Tim "Jake" Bates (Crystal); his grandchildren, Rob, Andy, Lee Slemmer, Kyle Martin, Jason Bates and Amanda Byrd; and his kitty buddy Tabby. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.
