He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. Burkey and Agnes Burkey (Tokarcik); his wife Irene C. Burkey; and his siblings, Ellen Burkey, Ruth Belock and Dennis Burkey.

He is survived by: his children, Renee Burkey, Mark Burkey (Mary), John Burkey (Jess) and Michael Burkey; and his granddaughter Mya-Irene.

He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of St. Joan of Arc Church in Streetsboro, the K of C and Streetsboro Schools Education Foundation.
