He was predeceased by : his parents, Martin William Hammerstein Sr. and Esther Dunbar Hammerstein; his son-in-law Ralph Forney; his grandsons, William Forney and Travis Martin; and his grandmother Myrtie Dunbar.

He is survived by : his wife Mary; his children, Angela Verner (Bob) of Adrian, Julie Forney of Show Low, AZ, Sally van (Niek), Kaar of Lexington, KY and Kim Martin (Rex) of Adrian; and his grandchildren, Justin Verner (Jami), Ashley O'Brien (Shaun), Westly Verner (Danielle), Logan Verner (Jamie), Jennifer Long (Paul), Michael Forney (Trish), Jacob Forney, Chrystal Ables (Jon), Ryan Martin (Marissa) and Dylan Martin (Korinna). He is also survived by twenty great grandchildren.

Bill also requested that any remembrances be in the form of a donation to the scholarship fund at the college or university of your choice and/or Hospice of Lenawee.
