He was predeceased by: his parents, Luis Cortez and Melchora Telles; and his siblings, Jesus, David, Rogelio Cortez and Oralia Hernandez.

He is survived by: his wife Juanita "Janie"; his children, Alberto Cortez, Jr. (Angelina), Cristina Villanueva (Joe), Marisela Russell (Mark) and Dalia Cortez (Robert Taylor); his grandchildren, Garett Cortez, Noah, Orlando Villanueva, Benjamin McVey, Mauricio Russell, Ella Taylor, Olivia Cortez, Stephanie Madrid, Sidney, Sami and Sofie Taylor; his siblings, Luis Cortez, Jr. (Sara), Velia Serratos (Joe), Amelia Salas (Steve), Irma Cortez (Tony Avila) and Lydia Dias (Mario); and his siblings-in-law, David Hernandez, Roberto Rios, Ricardo Rios (Angie), Hilda Rodriguez, Lydia Franco and Rosie Acosta. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
