He is survived by: his significant other Mabel Moberly Shafer; his children, William Shafer (Kelly) and Susan Crutcher (Earl); his grandchildren, Katie Dhillon (Dilsher), Steven Shafer, Sam Shafer (Maddie), Max Shafer (Taylor), Kelley Crutcher (Julia), Amey Plumb (Troy Greeno), Jamie Przybylek (Troy), Justin Shafer (Shoshana), Curt and Amanda Van Vlerah; his great grandchildren, Elleah, Aria and Kaia Dhillon; his grandchildren, Alex Shafer, Brooklyn, Nora Crutcher, Kenzey Young, Brody Plumb, Thomas, Taylor Przybylek, Dawson, Kinsley and Blake Van Vlerah; and his brother Gary Shafer (Pat).

Visitation was held on Friday, September 18th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Smith-Crates Funeral Home (515 N Main St, North Baltimore, OH 45872). A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 19th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.
