He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Gaston and Mary Elizer Gaston (Valentine); his wife Deborah Wright; and his siblings, A. T. Gaston of Earnest Gaston, W. B, James A. Gaston, Dorothy Hawkins, Johnella Adams, Elizabeth Jefferies, Viola Gaston and Annie Mae Cheers.
He is survived by: his children, Shirley J. Hughes (John), Charles K. Gaston (Sharon), William Jr. Gaston (La Vivian), Valerie F. Gaston, Dwight D. Gaston (Teneasha), Phyllis M. Cunningham (Gregory), Darryl F. Gaston (Doreen Jones), Linda K. Gaston-Fitzpatrick (Lester) and Cliff P. Gaston. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
