He was predeceased by: his father Ray Charles; his wife Debbie Welty (York); and his niece Mindy Kerby. He is survived by: his sons, Doug Russell of Evans, CO and Jason Welty of Columbus Grove, OH; and his sister Bonnie Kissell of Findlay, OH. He is also survived by three grandchildren.
