He was predeceased by: his father Dale Knife; his stepfather Carrol Kerns; his brother Dale Eugene Knife; and his granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Belcher. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Knife (Hess); his children, Robert Edmond Knife, Jr. of Troy and Teresa Ann Simmons (John); his grandson Robert Edmond Knife III; and his great grandchildren, McKayla, Titus, Sophia and Gavin.
