He was predeceased by: his father Robert N. Hartzell; his wife Helene C. Hartzell (Craig); his daughter Suzanne Hartzell Wallace; his son-in-law Richard Wallace; and his siblings, Robert Hartzell (Bobby), George W. Hartzell (Bill) and Kathryn Hartzell Johnston.
He is survived by: his children, Kathleen H. Thorpe (Joe), Julie H. Kaebnick (Hermann) and Thomas C. Hartzell (Belinda Reilly); his brother James Hartzell; and his grandchildren, Thomas Wallace (Dawn), Betsy Wallace Staley (Mark), Sally Wallace Oakley (Jake), Emily Thorpe Sweeney (Andy), Eric Thorpe (Ania), Molly Thorpe Murguia (Ismael), Brian Kaebnick (Elizabeth), Steven Kaebnick (Stephanie), Robert Kaebnick (Shauna), Leah Hartzell Shirey (Matt) and John T. Hartzell. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren.
