He was predeceased by: his parents, Bill Powell and Myrtle Powell (Johnson); his son J. D. Powell; his sister Marlyn Sue Smith; and the mother of his children June Powell.
He is survived by: his children, Walter C. Powell (Jeannine), Myra King (Scott Arnold) and Manessa Roland; his grandchildren, Jared Sanford, Zach Sanford (Heather), Isaac Sanford, Danielle Turner (Logan), Sean King and Raajih Roland; his great grandchildren, London and Cohen; and his partner Kay Moffitt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
