It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Michael Richard Melvin of Urbana, Ohio, born in Ottumwa, Iowa, who passed away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Malcom Richard and Betty Lou Melvin (Phillips); his grandparents, James E, Anna B. Melvin, Merle D. and Luckee Phillips; and his stepson W. C. Midgley.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Louise Melvin (Carpenter); his children, Mary Michelle Schmid (Doug) and Matthew Richard Melvin; his stepsons, W. Allan Midgley (Jennifer) and Todd Midgley; his sister Lou A. Cox (Mike); his grandchildren, Timothy M. Melvin, Mercedes M. Melvin, Malayna J. Melvin, Tanner L. Nichols and Wade Nichols; and his great grandchildren, Maylee, Macyi, Maverick, Blakelynn Melvin, Hensley, Owen Reasor, Parker and Baylor Nichols. He is also survived by several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
