He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Emma Ballard; and his grandparents, Clair, Christina Buechner, Tom and Mary Van Etten.
He is survived by: his parents, Patricia Shafer (Van Etten) and Jeffery Buechner (Charla); his wife Debra Buechner (Woodard) of Van Wert; his daughters, Rebecca Tracey of Toledo and Madison Ballard (Kyle) of Convoy; his sister Lisa Knoch of Van Wert; his nephew Dierks Knoch of Harrod; his niece Delani Knoch of Van Wert; his granddaughter Lydia Ballard of Convoy; and his stepbrothers, Cody (Elisha) and Jamie Rucklos. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory (722 S Washington St, Van Wert, OH 45891). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the same location. A committal service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 11:30 AM to 11:45 AM at the Woodland Cemetery (10968 Woodland Ave, Van Wert, OH 45891).
Preferred memorials are to the Melissa Jeane Duncan Smith Memorial Fund to Support Ocular Melanoma Research (Go Fund Me), Van Wert County Humane Society, Mile Monsters, Inc. (raising money and awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy), CHP Home Care & Hospice.
