He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester M. Schmidt and Helen Schmidt (Baker); his wife Betty Schmidt (Sherrill); his sister Marty Strickland; and his grandchildren, Chris Krauth, Derrick Bowermeister and Hunter Leonard.
He is survived by: his children, Jean (Bob), Cathy (Dave), Jim (Lynn) and John (Karen); and his grandchildren, Doug, Lauren (Johnny), Meghan, Thomas, David, Justin (Gretchen) and Lindsey (Allen).
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home and Cremation Services (139 S Dixie Dr, Vandalia, OH 45377). A graveside service was held on Thursday, September 3rd 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens (8200 W National Rd, New Carlisle, OH 45344).
