He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John, Sr. Hapner and Geneva Hapner; his wife Mary Ann Hapner (Peterson); his brother Robert E. Hapner; his children, Daniel J. Hapner (Margie), Thomas R. Hapner (Melissa), Susan L. Hapner, Peggy M. Hapner and Barbara A. Hapner; his sister Marilyn Kay Hapner; his grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Matthew Hapner, Sarah Griffin, Nicholas Hapner and Lauren Hapner; and his great grandchildren, Kendall Hapner, Lincoln Hapner, Jasper Tobias and Grayson Leopold. He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
