We announce the death of Thomas W. McCarthy of Vermilion, Ohio, born in Elyria, Ohio, who passed away on September 30, 2026, at the age of 83. Thomas will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. Thomas will be remembered for the impact he had on the lives of those around him. Friends, family, and colleagues will cherish their memories and the time shared. Those who knew Thomas will remember moments of kindness, warmth, and presence. Though words cannot fully capture his life, the legacy of connections and experiences remains. Thomas’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued his companionship.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas McCarthy and Alice McCarthy; and his sister Ellen Bragg. He is survived by: his daughters, Susan Cheek (Chad) of Monroeville and Michelle Reer (Doug) of Collins; his grandchildren, Eric Reer, Madison Shullick and Evan Cheek; and his sister Alice "San" Robertson of Oberlin. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 3330 Liberty Ave, Vermilion, OH 44089.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Vermilion Port Authority.
