Rodney Turner Obituary

Rodney "Rod" Turner, 77, of Boardman, Ohio went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2023, following a long battle with illnesses. He was born on June 6, 1946 in Elk City, Oklahoma, a son of the Jimmie Earl Turner and Vestal Sarah Williams Turner.

Rod went to Enid High School where he was on the tennis team and graduated in 1964. He attended college in Oklahoma where he also played tennis and earned a business degree. He worked in men's clothing sales and management for over 40 years between Foley's in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lazarus and Men's Wearhouse in Columbus, Ohio, and Dillard's in Warren and Boardman, Ohio.

He was a longtime member of New Vision Christian Church Center. Rod had a passion for sharing God's love and spent much of his life ministering to others through preaching, as well as sermons he would record and edit himself. Rod enjoyed spending time with his children and attending activities for them over the years such as band recitals, football games and talent shows. He was always so proud of each of their musical gifts. He also loved being called "Poppy" by his grandchildren whom he adored.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Brian (Allison) Turner of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Sarah (David) Mintus of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and his grandchildren, Jentsen and Avaya Mintus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Guthrie; and his brother, Dennis Turner.

A private service will be held by the immediate family.
