She was predeceased by: her parents, Leo Hassen and Hilda Hassen (Meiring); her husband Leo "Sunny" Schmitz Jr.; her daughter Diane M. Laster; her brothers, Leo Hassen Jr., Raymond Hassen and William Hassen; her great grandchild Brody Miller; and her daughter-in-law Beth Schmitz.
She is survived by: her children, Jude Schmitz, Nancy Martinez Jr. (John O.), Ron Schmitz (Diane), Dan Schmitz, Scott Schmitz (Deb) and Randy Schmitz (Rae Lynn); her sisters, Marian Iott and Rose Bettinger; her son-in-law Hershel Laster; her grandchildren, J. D. Martinez, Michael Martinez (Tasha), Chasity Nofziger, Crystal O'Donnell, Andrea Panez-Schmitz (Cesar), Brianne Schmitz, Robert Schmitz, Matt Schmitz (Casey), Lindsay Miller (Jason), Jacob Schmitz (Missy), Kaylee Dotson and Heather Straka (Bill); and her close friend Laura Lou Lee.
