He was predeceased by: his parents, Okey Lee Nelson and Elsie Nelson (Lewis); his wives, Paulette Nelson (Thompson) and Margaret Nelson (Richerson); and his siblings, Aletha Osborne, Bernard Nelson, Joyce Harrod and Leslie Nelson.
He is survived by: his sons, Stephen Nelson (Gina) and Joe Nelson (Lisa); his grandchildren, Amy Colyer (Chris), Stephanie Hoehn (Kevin), Dawn Roark (David), Joe II Nelson (Margie) and Clayton Nelson (Shiloh); his great grandchildren, Landen, Gavin Colyer, Nolan and Hannah Hoehn; and his sister Janet Ratcliffe (Jim).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to Animal Friends Humane Society, Hamilton, Ohio.
