He was predeceased by : his parents, Earl M. James and Doris I. James (Spracklin); his brother Keith James; and his sister-in-law Shirley James. He is survived by : his wife Mary P. James (Garrett); his children, Tony James (Lori), Tracey Hostetler (Curt), Thomas James (Rhonda) and Ty James (Becky); his grandchildren, Bethany Johnson (Jonmichael), Jennifer Asare (Lawrence), David James (Jessica), Ethan James (Jaima), Samantha Schinker (Zach), Rachael McCall (Tim), Alan James, Lucas James, Cassidy James, Jackson James (Annie) and Lillian Shoemaker (Jarrod); and his brothers, Ronald James and William James (Susie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 17th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Woodstock Free Will Baptist Church (332 W Bennett St, Woodstock, OH 43084). A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 18th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
