He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Koenig Sr. and Judith Lewis Koenig; and his brother James Koenig. He is survived by: his wife Julie Newland; his sons, Michael Shane Koenig (Kathleen), Brian Newland, William Newland (Jessica) and Robert Newland (Angelica); and his brothers, Daniel (Josh McElfresh) and Jason Koenig. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home (216 W Mulberry St, West Union, OH 45693). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 at the Moores Chapel Cemetery.
