He was predeceased by : his father Gilbert Herner; his stepfather Burton Worcester; his son Fred Herner Jr.; and his brothers, William Herner and Thomas Herner.

He is survived by : his son Timothy Herner (Kimberly Atkins) of Willard; his mother Linda Herner of Norwalk; his grandchildren, Kyle Herner, Stephanie Noethen, Trisha Miller, Michael Herner and Matthew Herner; his brother David Herner (Peggy) of Norwalk; and his caregiver Jason Brant. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
