He was predeceased by : his parents, Edward Berling and Geneva Rice; his wife Elaine Berling; his stepdaughter Lisa Riffle; and his siblings, Earl, Edward, Dorothy and Jeanie.

He is survived by : his children, Mark Berling (late Kim) and Karen Brown (Jim); and his stepchildren, Lee Benhart (Susan), Lori Barr (Rick), Robert Riffle (Roxanne) and Russell Riffle (Therese).
