He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Lucas and Bessie Piatt Lucas; his wife Nancy Fautz Lucas; and his siblings, Bill Lucas, John Lucas (Bob), Charles Lucas (Tom), Bonnie Nalley, Mary Lou Gatten and Shirley Vaness.

He is survived by: his sons, James Lucas Jr. of Steubenville and Christopher Lucas of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, David, Korey, Colin and Brandon Lucas; and his siblings, George Lucas of Woodsfield, Pat Dalrymple of Woodsfield and Winnie Mae Stimpert (Kate) of Lewisville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
