He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edgar Swarthout and Elizabeth Schumacher Swarthout; his wife Lillie Mae; his daughter Lori Ann; and his brother John E. Swarthout.
He is survived by: his son James E. Swarthout (Michelle) of New Hampshire; and his grandchildren, Tyler James of Massachusetts and Elizabeth "Ellie" of New Hampshire.
