He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. "Smitty" Smith, and Delores L. Osler Smith, Jr.; his close friend Mary Patton; his siblings, Tammy Compston and Chuck Miller; his uncle Ronald Smith; and his pet Tinker.
He is survived by: his granddaughter Zaina Patton; his sister Becky Miller of Big Prairie; his sibling's children, Amanda Thomas (Mike) of Warsaw, David Compston (Mel) of Wooster, Shon Compston of Cincinnati, Matt Compston (Caitlin) of Tuscarawas County and Nick Compston of Orrville; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kaylee, Brooke, Jacob, Lena, Dillin, Cadi, Owen, Aaron, Shiloh and Lainey; his close friends, Ryan Hershberger and Heath Yoder; Kara Patton.
A graveside service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 9:15 AM at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273).
