He was predeceased by: his parents, John Joseph, Sr. and Anna Wendell (Gildea); and his sister Catherine Lucarelli. He is survived by: his wife Donna M. Glatzhofer; his children, John J Wendell of Colorado, Michael Paul Wendell of Colorado, Theresa Ann Wendell of Medina and James Steven Wendell of Medina; and his grandchildren, Jacqueline Marie Wendell of Akron, Theresa Maria Wendell of Wooster, Laura Donna Wendell of Toledo, Cooper Maxwell Bilek of Shreve, Kyle Andrew Pindor of Parma, Michael James Pindor of Parma, Sophia Kate Wendell of Colorado, Jack Henry Wendell of Colorado and Virginia Wendell of Florida.
