He was predeceased by: his parents, Sanford Gidney and Myrtle Williamson Gidney; his former wife Mary Juanita; and his siblings, Virginia McRae, Marion Rucker, Hazel Anderson and Warren Gidney.

He is survived by: his wife Michele Hickerson-Mitchell; his children, Joy Beacham of Austintown, Maureen Kirksey (Joseph) of Liberty, Marvin Gidney (Sheila) of Girard, Lisa Marie Redd of Atlanta, GA, Tanika Mitchell of Cleveland and Brandon Mitchell (Kyra) of Columbus; his grandchildren, Shawnese Belcher (Steven), Kevin Jr. James (Dalvon), Rashaunda James, Marvin Gidney Jr., Taneil Jackson, Jasmine Alli (Michael), Tyler Mitchell, Noah Mitchell, Ethan Mitchell and Judah Mitchell; and his niece Sharon Bourn of Nashville, TN. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren.
