He was predeceased by : his parents, Bessie Lou Dora and William Walter Johnson; and his siblings, Julia William "Butch" Jr. and Shirley. He is survived by : his former life partner Beatrice Hendrix; his son Robert (Melvin Jr.); his siblings, Wayne, Cathy and Trina; his grandchildren, Robert Jr., Chelsea, Celena, Katryna, Melvin III, Jaloni and Jalena; and his close friend Faye. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, extended family friends.
