He was predeceased by: his parents, Adeline Bellamy and Walter Whitehead; his wife Mabel Whitehead; and his siblings, Walter, Walley, Louise, Franchise, Nadine, Loretha and Corey.
He is survived by: his children, Helena "Penny" Bell and John Whitehead Jr. (Mary); his stepchildren, Audrey "Necie" Ford (Thomas "Cheesy"), James "Buddy" Spraggins (Tina) and Bradford Spraggins (RaShan); and his siblings, Joseph Whitehead, Patty Mae Whitehead and Debbie Jean Barns. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
