He was predeceased by: his parents, Gerald W. Carpenter and Josephine B. Carpenter (Piatt); his wife Janice S. Carpenter (Cartwright); his son Ronald Carpenter; his sister Dottie Carpenter; his parents-in-law, Adran and Lucille Cartwright; his son-in-law Marvin Wheeler; and his sister-in-law Laura Cartwright.
He is survived by: his children, Brenda Wheeler of Zanesville, Donald Carpenter of Zanesville, Cheryl Norman (Marlin Smith) of Heath and Mark Carpenter of Zanesville; his grandchildren, Matthew Wheeler (Mayme), Megan Wheeler, Ryan Norman (Wendy), Cassie Titko (Jimmy), Zackary Carpenter, Nicholas Carpenter, Lucas Carpenter, Abbey Carpenter, Izzy Carpenter and Elly Carpenter; his great grandchildren, Miley, Raelyn, Marvin, Jack and Emersyn; his siblings, Illya Moore (Tom) of Athens, Larry of Zanesville, Richard of Zanesville, Kenny Carpenter of Zanesville, James Carpenter (Carolyn) of Newark, Robert Carpenter (Donna) of Newark and Don Carpenter of Florida; and his siblings-in-law, Francis Cartwright of Nashport, Irvin Cartwright (Rose) of Illinois and Janet Birkhimer of North Carolina. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
