He was predeceased by: his mother Floy "Nikki" Barrett Thomas; and his brother Jim Thomas. He is survived by: his father Johnnie Thomas; his close friend Tamiko Poe; his children, James Poe, Jimmy Joe Thomas, Isaac Thomas and Tamera Factor; and his sister Sue Tisdell. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
