He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Sweeney and Harriett Sweeney; his daughter Katherine; and his brother Michael. He is survived by: his wife JoAnne; his children, Thomas (Roseanne) and Lori (Timothy); his grandchildren, Amy (Joey), Nicholas (Christina), Joanne (David), Karalyn, Allison, April and Grace (Owen); his great grandchildren, Barrett and Eleanor; and his grandchildren, Jewlie, Lake, Keygan and Lucas.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude's or to support student scholarships at Western Oklahoma State College Foundation.
