He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Edward Jeter and Emma Lee Jeter (White); his brothers, Sid and Raymond; his son Jimmy; his parents-in-law, Hershel and Opal Sykes; and his son-in-law Jug Garrett.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ernestine Sykes; his children, John David Higgins (Laveda) of Ardmore, OK, Deanne Garrett of Duncan, OK and Kelly Greathouse (Larry) of Ardmore, OK; his grandchildren, Jerry Garrett (John Garrett), Brandon Higgins (Arrin Hill), Toby Greathouse (Laren Carlock), Gage Jeter (Grant Jeter) and Emilia Jeter (Samantha Jeter); and his siblings-in-law, Joe Sykes (Anna) of Whitesboro, TX, Elizabeth Blackwell (Doug) of Ardmore, OK and Linda Coughran of Ardmore, OK.. He is also survived by 20 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maranatha Freewill Baptist Church benevolent fund in memory of John.
