Ellene Morgan Obituary

Ellene Roberta Morgan, 97, died Monday in her hometown of Bartlesville. She was a loved woman of God known for her kind spirit and open heart.

Roberta was born the baby sister of seven siblings to Cleveland and Nell (Green) Hobson on June 19, 1925, in Bartlesville. She grew up in a neighborhood filled with extended family and friends. One of the neighborhood boys, Lester Morgan, would often ride his bike over to visit. Roberta and Lester started dating as teenagers and were married on January 27, 1942.

Lester entered the U.S. Army later that year and was first stationed in South Dakota, where Roberta fondly remembered taking the train with infant son Gary to live while Lester served. After Lester was honorably discharged, the family made their home in Bartlesville. With the help of Grandma Nell watching the boys, Roberta worked as a Teletype Operator for 30 plus years at Phillips Petroleum Co. Lester preceded her in death in May of 1994, after 52 years of a loving marriage.

When the boys were younger the family enjoyed time spent camping and fishing outdoors with many memorable trips to the Ozarks and Roaring River in Cassville, MO. Together with Lester, Roberta enjoyed being active, enjoying gardening, raising cattle, and traveling throughout the US. After Lester passed, Roberta decided to keep on traveling, eventually visiting all 50 states and even taking an epic 5, 000-mile road trip with her lifelong friend, Ann Postrach.

In her free time at home, Roberta enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting, and her church. As a young mother, she was active in the boys’ activities, while later she cherished time spent with her many grandkids, all knowing exactly where Grandma Bertie / Birdie kept her well-stocked candy drawer. An excellent home cook and baker, Roberta was well known for her Sunday family meals, lemon pies, and wonderfully light and airy bread, which she credited to counting her many blessings as she kneaded. None of her family can ever remember her raising her voice, but they have many memories of her love and compassion for all she met. Her love and spirit will not fade in death.

Roberta is survived by her three boys, Gary (Nina) Morgan, Allen (Dedra) Morgan, and Steven (Janie) Morgan; seven grandchildren, Kim (Jerry) Olansen, Debbie (Steve) Ketring, Stacey (Scott) Buffington, Landelle (John) Steanson, Landon (Meredith) Morgan, Scott Morgan and Jill (Jeremiah) Lyon, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter-in-law Teresa Morgan, and siblings Rex, Harold, Byron, Max, Loren, and Pauline.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 10-8 at Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, 10 a.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Rev. Steven Morgan officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
