He was predeceased by: his parents, Barbara Bolton and William "Bill" Gowen; and his wife Esther Shank. He is survived by: his children, Veronica Oaks (Barrett) and Chase Gowen (Jessie); his siblings, Mary Ann Morrison (Gary) of Calera, Oklahoma, George Gowen (Lisa) of Colbert and Jimmy Gowen (Sarah) of Colbert, Oklahoma; and his grandchildren, Brooklyn Oaks, Braylen Oaks, Jordyn Oaks, Liam Gowen and Lily Gowen. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Colbert, Oklahoma, toward their building fund.
