As James departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though James may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy James leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his father Leonard; his brother Dewayne Arteberry; and his grandparents, Tom and Jessie Duncan. He is survived by: his daughter Cheryl Arteberry of Texas; and his sibling's children, Cindy Wilkey (Curt) of Checotah, Mitch Arteberry (Peggy) of McAlester and Carmen Thompson (Lloyd) of Tahlequah.
Viewing was held on Thursday, July 10th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Garrett Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service (311 SW 2nd St, Checotah, OK 74426). A graveside service was held on Friday, July 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Greenlawn Cemetery.
