He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmy R. Rather and Emma Lou Rather (Bailey); his wife Patty Lue Copeland; and his brother Eugene Dale Rather. He is survived by: his children, Michelle LaBenz of Nacogdoches, Texas and Stephen Rather (Amy) of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Veronica Holt (Todd), Nathan LaBenz (Lauren), Dylan Rather-Tugmon, Kyle Rather-Tugmon (Kayla) and Danny Rather; his great grandchildren, Landry, Emmie Holt and Oliver Labenz; and his sisters, Sharlene Good (Al) of Arizona and Darlene Barry of California.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, April 21st 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Hogan Cemetery.
