He was predeceased by: his parents, Minnie Louise Yates and Frederick Charles Yates; his sister Phyllis Rae Koskovick; his grandson Reid Wesley Major; his stepmother Velma Yates; and his stepsister Joy Walker.

He is survived by: his wife Catherine Yates; his stepsister Sue Lamb of Tiawah; his stepsibling's children, Denise Major (Richard) of Oologah and Wade Yates (Karla) of Oologah; his great-stepnephew Grant Yates (Julie) of Claremore; Mark Yates (Jolene) of Lavernia, Texas.. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations can be made to the Oologah United Methodist Church.
