We announce the death of Gwendolyn Sue Thornton (Cleveland, Oklahoma), who passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 72. Gwendolyn will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. She was predeceased by: her parents, Kenneth Wheeler and Ruth Wheeler; her grandparents, O. J., Margaret Wallace, Shelby Charles Wheeler and Lola Mertle Anderson-Wheeler; her uncles, Benny Kent and Robert Wheeler; her brothers, Kenny Wheeler II and Lawrence Wheeler; her stepson Jim Stacy Thornton; and her niece Jennifer Taylor.

She is survived by: her husband Jim Thornton; her children, Christa Unap Fulkerson (Aaron Fulkerson) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kristen Jameson of Columbia, Missouri and Kanita Thompson (Jed Thompson) of Prosper, Texas; her stepdaughter Kazia White of Verdigris; her grandchildren, Jordan Kidder, Morgan Kidder-Brown, Kelsey Barrone, Peyton Unap, Evan Fulkerson and Kaya Thompson; her siblings, Roger Wheeler Sr., Beverly Bishop, Cathy Bradsher and Pat Bundy; and her nieces and nephews, Sheila Rice, Jeremiah Taylor, Charles Wheeler, Roger Wheeler Jr., David Taylor, Jill Wheeler, Rachael Callis, Ryan Bradsher, Ruby Flatt, Samantha Wheeler, Zachary Taylor and Joey Wheeler.

Viewing was held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home (108 W Delaware St, Cleveland, OK 74020). A funeral service was held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Western Heights Baptist Church (200 N Gilbert Ave, Cleveland, OK 74020).
