She was predeceased by : her husband Hayward Brown. She is survived by : her children, Deon Jan Brown of California, Gilbert Smith Armistead of Downey, California and Tracy Dale Armistead of Nashville, Tennessee; her stepchildren, Hayward Brown Jr. and Vivian Okeowo of Atlanta, Georgia; and her sister Sandra Underwood. She is also survived by other extended family and friends.

Bob Branstetter wrote a sympathy message

“Hello Mother. After all these years I found you! But unfortunately too late. You gave me up in 1964 and I don’t blame you. Times were different then. I have lived a good life and have a family of my own now. I think of you often, there is hole in my heart that only you can fill. You named me Daniel Todd Underwood, I was renamed Robert Branstetter I truly hope that you found peace. Rest in peace mother. All my love Bob (Danny)”
