He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Thomas Edward and Lottie B. Shirel (McLaughlin); and his siblings, Myrtle Shirel, Nadine Gregory, Olen Shirel, Violent Dobson, Anna Keller, Harold Shirel, Harley Shirel, Vernie Williams and Bill Shirel.

He is survived by: his children, Kim (Dan Hemmerly) of Forest, Ohio, Rodney (Pauleta Shirel) of Claremore, Oklahoma and Nathan (Amanda Faught) of Tulsa; his wife Sally Shirel; his grandchildren, Tiffany (Brandon Morris) of Centerton, Arkansas, Daniel (Megan Shirel) of Kiefer, Oklahoma, Paul (Arabelle Hord) of Marion, Ohio, Rachel Shirel of Lawton, Oklahoma, Alex Faught of Edmond, Oklahoma and Hayden Faught of Tulsa; his great grandchildren, Ryder Morris, Tanner Shirel, Camden Shirel, Asher Hord and Ranger Morris; and his brother Jerry Shirel of Deer Park, Texas..
