Charline Althea Lewis Eblen Obituary
Durant, OK- Charline Althea Lewis was born Thursday, May 11, 1933 in Lamesa, Texas to Paul Dewey Lewis and Annie Lucille (Howze) Lewis. She passed from this life on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 89.
Charline married Joval F. Eblen on March 29th, 1950 in San Angelo, Texas. He precedes her in death on March 20, 1994. Charline attended ENMU and Texas Tech University where she earned her Master's degree. She worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Unit Director of MHSSO until her retirement in 2002. Charline was very involved with the Bryan County Federation of Democratic Women and was named "Woman of the Year" in March 2009. She is of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed going to church and studying her Bible.
Charline was also preceded in death by her parents; a baby girl Eblen; a twin brother, Charlie; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Herrington, Waylon Brown, and Nathan Alexander Herrington; great grandson, Brian Chase Degollado Eblen; brothers Paul, John Henry, Sam, and Franklin; and sisters, Eleanor, Elizabeth, and Lorraine.
She is survived by her sons, Joval F. Eblen Jr. and his wife, Genna, of Madill, OK, and Charlie Eblen and his wife, Sandy, of Mustang, OK; a daughter, Rebecca Eblen of Durant, OK; brother, Jim Lewis and his wife, Marge of Belen, New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Gloria Lewis of Dallas, TX; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 4-6 PM at Brown's Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, Nov. 20, at Brown's Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Tommy Green officiating. Charline will be laid to rest next to her husband, Joval, at Highland Cemetery with Joval Eblen III, Ethan Eblen, Lucas Degollado Eblen, Bryan Kott, Aaron Eads, Stacey Raines and Alex Gager, serving as casket bearers.
