He was predeceased by : his parents, Earl Atkinson and Susie Atkinson (French); and his siblings, Mary Kent, Oneta Jackson and Glen Atkinson.

He is survived by : his wife Elizabeth Ann of Denison; his son Kevin Matthews (Stephanie) of Denison; his siblings, Sue Goolsby of Bokchito, Margaret Cheshier of Bokchito and Lloyd Atkinson of Russellville, AR; his granddaughters, Jacquelynn Matthews of Denison and Katelynn Kourt of Denison; and his great grandchild Baxton Kourt.
