He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ira and Lena Wood Hayes; his stepmother Marie Hayes; his sister Mary Nell Shero; and his friend John.

He is survived by: his wife Ann McPherson Hayes; his children, John Mac Hayes (John Mac) of Tulsa and Melinda O'Brien (Sean) of Edmond; his grandchildren, Hannah May Felder of Hobart, John David Felder (Karrington) of Oklahoma City, Hayes Felder of Los Angeles, Jess O'Brien of Edmond and Katherine Ann O'Brien of Edmond; his brother Buck Hayes of Rogers, Arkansas.; and his family John.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 3rd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Matthews Funeral Home & Cremation Service (601 S Kelly Ave, Edmond, OK 73003, USA). A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection (13112 N Rockwell Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73142).
