He was predeceased by : his brother Steven Whipkey. He is survived by : his former life partner Diedre Scott; his wife Connie Hoss; his children, Deana Custer (John) of The Colony, Kimberly Bohanon (Steven) of Frisco, Texas and Robert Whipkey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and his stepchildren, Rebecca Anderson (Eric) of Otis, Kansas and Russell Hoss (Heidi Rogers) of Overland Park, Kansas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.

Memorials have been designated to Alzheimer's Association or Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue and Retirement, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
