He was predeceased by : his son Gary Dean Phariss; his sisters, Ruby Roberts Weber and Neva Jackson; his siblings-in-law, Mitchell Roberts, Angus Weber, Elmer Jackson and Margie Phariss; his son-in-law Hank Marsh; his granddaughter Sasha Ludine Johnson; and his parents-in-law, Lucille, Oney McCay, Larry McCay (Nita), Deveryl Tallant (Orville), Carl McCay (Marge), Gerald Mccay (Cheryl) and Dee McCay Scott.
He is survived by : his children, Joe, Tim Susan (Kim) and Mary (Wayne); his grandchildren, John (Michelle), Tom (Nancy), Kim (Tim), Sydel (Jay), Noah, Micah, Austin (Mandy), Jada (Kevin) and Merritt (Luke); his great grandchildren, Josh, Coraline of Layla, TJ, Silas, Wyatt, Rylee (Eric), Regan (Levi), Reese, Rowan, Rhett and Harrison; his brothers, Robert Phariss and Jim Phariss (Carolyn); and his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Love (Jim) and Kent Scott.
