He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Sheets and Mary Delilah Sheets (Iman); his siblings, Jack West, Mary Posey, Rodney Sheets Sr., Melanie Reed, Scott Sheets and Martha Lee Sheets; and his grandson Justin Maxwell.

He is survived by: his wife Nona Joy Sheets; his children, Tammi Truitt (Justin), Cindi Anderson, Jerry Sheets Jr. (Kim), DeeAnn Maxwell (Richard) and Rodney Sheets Jr. (Sandy); his sisters, Sue Carol Bales and Patty Rollins; and his sister-in-law Carolann West. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
