He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Epperson and Verbia E. Hughes-Epperson. He is survived by: his partner Jackie Walter; his children, James Epperson (Amber), Hillary Davis (Orvie) and Mallory Epperson (Peyton Ferguson); his stepchildren, Dakota Walters (Matt Andrews), Savanna Walters and Gregg Young (Debbie); and his great grandchildren, Parker Young and Kingston Davis.

One event that held significant meaning for Michael was attending the Warriors for Freedom Foundation Fishing Tournament every year.
