He was predeceased by: his parents, Dan Slagell and Jane Slagell (Waters); and his brother Carl Dean Slagell. He is survived by: his wife Verdella Slagell; his children, Jeffrey Slagell (Lori) of Cordell, OK, Philip Slagell (Claudia Arnold) of Amarillo, TX, Verla Shaffer (Martin) of Arkansas City, KS and Joanna Nagelhout (Brad) of Lebanon, Tennessee; and his siblings, Layman Slagell (Dorothy), Daniel Slagell (Josie) and Beulah Switzer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
